Because a priority for this website is to position the center as the “front door” to environmentally-focused programs at the university, the content is not limited programs offered by the center.
As a best practice, web pages are designed to have a site user’s needs/priorities in mind. In this case, the university’s structure is secondary to directing someone to the information they are looking for, regardless of whether they are owned by the center. Hence, call outs and links to Academic Programs and Courses as well as the Office of Sustainability are included on this page. Similarly, a call out for Distinguished Speakers is included to allow the center to promote speakers that are co-hosted with other departments or simply topically connected to the center.
The Programs section includes several child/sub-pages, which users can access through the content on this landing page and then through the side navigation of each child page.
To update this page, refer to the instructions and tutorials below or watch the Programs page video on the Training Videos page.
- Environmental Research Collaboration Series
- Summer Undergraduate Research Program
- Summer Undergraduate Research Program Topics
A Research Topic Template has been set up so that adding new topics to the site is easy. Refer to the Research Topic Template tutorial for instructions on how to add a topic.
- Summer Undergraduate Research Program Topics
- Internships
- Events
The first two are specific programs run by the center. Internships and events are types of programs.
Featuring programs
The featured programs block is at the top of the page, allowing admins to highlight a program at any given time. The block can accommodate a text block for a program description and an optional Event List block for associated events.

Featured program templates
The following templates have been created to facilitate changing the Featured Program on this page throughout the year, each template highlights a different series of events:
- Center for Environment Kick-off Week
- Environmental Research Collaboration Series
- Distinguished Speakers
At launch, the Center for the Environment Kick-Off Week pattern will be in use, but this can be swapped with one of the two others once the week is over. Refer to the Featured Program Template tutorial for instructions.
Events
The events section encourages site visitors to engage with center programming by attending an event. This section is designed to be flexible, including three areas that can be populated with title, description, and links that can direct users to either an individual event post or an event category such as Distinguished Speakers or Kick-off Week.
To add an event to the site, refer to the Event (Department) tutorial.
New programs
If the content associated with a new program is only a 1-2 paragraphs, adding a content block to the existing Programs page, like Research Support Services, is best.
If a new center program is substantive enough to warrant its own page, create a page and designate Programs as its parent page in the Page Editor. This program will appear in the side navigation for the Programs section. Note that more than ten items in a side nav starts to get unwieldy.
