The purpose of this content type is to promote your office’s events to your site visitors.
Your site can display a list of upcoming events. Before you can add events to a page, you must first create the individual Event posts. To add and edit content to the Event post, you’ll use blocks.
Add your event
- Navigate to Events > Add New.
- Enter a Title for your event.
- Add a detailed description in the content area below the Title, including key information like what’s happening, who the event is for, and why people should attend.
- If you would like to add an image to the event details such as a speaker’s headshot, you can do so using the Image block.
- If you need to direct users to an event registration page or to an existing Happenings event for more information, add a Button in the content area and apply your desired link.
Set date and time
- If your event will last longer than a single day or has recurring instances, use the dropdown to select from Regular, Recurring, or Multi-day.
- If your event does not have a specific timeframe or will be ongoing for an entire day, select the checkbox for All day event.
- Use the Event Date and Event Time pickers to specify the date and time of your event.
Add a location
- When you create an event, you can add location information to the body of the event description or add it using the Location field in the editor. Using the Location field allows the event’s location details to appear in previews of the event on any event listing on your site. In addition, using this field ensures location information is listed consistently on all event detail pages.
- In order to apply a Location to your event, you first have to create it following the steps to Add an Event Location.
- Once you have created a Location, return to the Event editor and begin typing the name into the Location field. When you see your Location display as a result, select it in order to apply those details to your event.
Featured image and categories
- Optionally, you can upload or select a Featured Image from the Media Library that visually represents your event. If you do not have a high quality or engaging image to add here, it is best to leave the event without one so that users can view the event details more quickly.
- Choose relevant Categories to help visitors find your event. Create a new Category within the event editor, or select existing ones from a list. Keep in mind that the Categories you assign to an event can help to specify how they will be displayed in an Event List block anywhere on your site.
Publish and preview
- Use the Preview button to see how your event will appear on your website.
- Once satisfied, click Publish to make your event appear on the site.
Calendar syncing options
Please note that the ability to sync an event to various calendar options will be automatically applied to each Event entry. This will display at the top of your event’s content as a line of text and links “Add to: Google Calendar | Outlook | iCal File.” This is intended to assist users in adding your event to their personal calendar solutions.
Designate an Events page
As part of the Event content type, you have the ability to designate one page on your site that will display all of the events you create in a single unified list. This page is helpful to link to from Event List blocks as a way for users to see your full offering of events. Follow these steps to set up the page:
- Navigate to Pages > Add New.
- Enter a Title for the page (i.e., “Upcoming Events”) and select Publish.
- Navigate to Events > Settings.
- Select the Events page dropdown and choose the name of the page you just created.
- Select Save Changes to publish this selection.
Delete an event
- From your site dashboard, navigate to Events
- To permanently delete an event, find the event you want to delete and click Trash
- To prevent an event from displaying on the front but to keep the record for future reference, click Edit. From the Event Editor, in the right sidebar, click Switch to draft
