The Country map block highlights countries where specific work is being done across the world. When the cursor hovers over a country, it will display a number that corresponds with the topic of the map. The block can accommodate 1 to 4 tabs or topics for users to see where different activities take place. For the global site, we used this block to preview some of the information in the Global Database for users to see before logging in.

At the time of launch, the 4 tabs were:

  1. Seed Grants
  2. Strategic Partners
  3. Publications
  4. International Agreements

How to use the country map block

  1. The data for this block is edited and added in the dashboard of the site, in the left-hand admin bar, under Country map settings. You can also follow the link on the block once you add the block to a page.
  2. From there, you can add information for up to 4 topics, or maps.
    • If a map name is left blank, that map will not display.
  3. The fields for each map are:
    • Map name (This is what appears in the tab on the front end.)
    • Map data
      • Country name (Please choose from the list of available countries below. When entered correctly, the country will appear yellow on the map. )
      • Numerical data (This is the number that will show when you hover your cursor over that country.)
  4. By clicking the “Add row” under the Map data section, you can add another country’s data.
  5. Click the “Update” button on the right of the map data to save any changes.

Important notes

This map was built to show numerical data, not qualitative data or links.

If too much text is put in the “Numerical data” boxes, it will look bad on the front end. We do not advise putting text in those spots.

The map can be added to any page by selecting “Country map” from the block menu.
