As a site administrator, you can grant access to your website to others, allowing you to collaborate on content creation, manage tasks or moderate comments. Here’s how to add a user:

1. Ask the new user to log into the website

  • They should navigate to http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/ (replace yourwebsite.com with your actual domain name).
  • They should enter their WASHU Key password to log in.
  • They should notify you that this step is complete.

2. Log in to your dashboard:

  • Open your admin dashboard. (http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/)
  • Enter your WASHU Key password to log in.

2. Access the users menu:

  • Once logged in, you’ll be on your dashboard.
  • On the left-hand side of the screen, you’ll see a vertical menu.
  • Click on the menu item labeled “Users.”

3. Update the new user’s permission level:

  • Find the line item for the new user’s WASHU Key ID.
  • Select the user’s WASHU Key ID or “Edit” just below their WASHU Key ID.
  • Scroll down until you see “Role.” Learn more about user roles.
  • From the drop-down, select the desired role.
    • Administrator: Has full access to control everything on the site. Use with caution!
    • Editor: Can create, edit, publish, and delete posts and pages.
    • Author: Can write and edit their own posts, but cannot publish them.
    • Contributor: Can write and edit posts, but cannot publish them and has limited editing capabilities on other users’ content.
    • Subscriber: Can only manage their profile.

5. Save:

  • Click the button labeled “Update User” at the bottom of the screen.

Deleting users

  1. From your site’s dashboard, go to Users > All Users.
  2. Hover over the person’s name.
  3. Click Remove > Confirm Removal.

Additional notes

  • By default, WordPress will send a notification email to the new user containing their login information. You can uncheck the box labeled “Send User Notification” if you want to deliver the credentials yourself.
  • Remember, assigning an Administrator role grants full control over the website. Only assign this role to users you trust completely.

For a more detailed explanation of user roles, you can refer to the WordPress documentation.
