{"id":1155,"date":"2024-01-09T21:02:51","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T21:02:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitaldocumentation.wustl.edu\/doc-central\/?page_id=1518"},"modified":"2024-11-22T21:59:03","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T21:59:03","slug":"events-list","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/digitaldocumentation.wustl.edu\/stlouis\/blocks\/events-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Events list"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to add a list of events to a page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol id=\"block-2b9f3a1a-2918-4c11-b303-8fa3b16acd75\">\n<li>Create a new page or edit an existing one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the&nbsp;<strong>+&nbsp;button<\/strong> to add a new block to insert the&nbsp;<strong>Events List block&nbsp;<\/strong>on the page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Customize the block\u2019s settings as needed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Number of Events<\/strong> &#8211; Use the slider to select how many events you want the list to show. We suggest displaying a small set of three to four if you are featuring them on a page paired with descriptive content about the list.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Category<\/strong> &#8211; Search or select from Event Categories you have created.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Display past events<\/strong> &#8211; Turn this selection on or off. If turned on, the list will <em>only<\/em> display past events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Choose fields to display<\/strong> &#8211; Select to display the Location, Excerpt and\/or Featured image. Keep in mind that the more information that is displayed will increase the height that the block takes up on your page or post.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Preview<\/strong> your page or post to see how the Events list looks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Publish<\/strong> your page or post to make the Events list visible to visitors.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create context for events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to help users understand what type of events are included in your list, you may want to pair it with other blocks. We suggest placing a <a href=\"..\/..\/heading\/\">Heading<\/a> block before the Event list and giving it a title like &#8220;Upcoming Events&#8221; or &#8220;Program Events&#8221; to describe the list. If you have selected specific Event Categories for the list to display, you may want to use those in your heading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Link to more events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, we suggest adding a Text with Arrow <a href=\"..\/..\/button\/\">Button<\/a> below the Event list and linking it to the Event Category roll up or the Events roll up page. This will assist users in accessing a longer list of events if it is difficult to display them all due to space constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Event Category link<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Navigate to Event Categories under the Events tab and select &#8220;View&#8221; next to the Category you need.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy the URL of this page and add it to your Text with Arrow button. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Events page link<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>If your site generally displays events local to your office or department (versus university-wide events), it should be equipped with Cal+ and you can follow the instructions to <em><a href=\"..\/..\/event-department\/\">Designate an Events page<\/a><\/em> here.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your site mainly promotes universitywide events, follow the instructions on <a href=\"..\/..\/event-university\/\">how to use Happenings<\/a> here.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy the URL of this page and add it to your Text with Arrow button. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How to add a list of events to a page Create context for events In order to help users understand what type of events are included in your list, you may want to pair it with other blocks.
